Miso Toast – A New Twist on an Aussie Classic
If you love the comfort of toast but want a favour that wakes your taste buds, this miso toast is your new best friend.
Have you tried Miso toast? I started this when I finished the bottle of Vegemi*e.
So many people asked me to try it (I guess many Australian do for people from other countries!?), and I finally got to taste it on toast – and even managed to finish one small jar! Then I forgot to buy a new one, and while looking for a replacement, I thought… yes, miso! I have plenty of miso in my kitchen. So I gave it a try. Oh my goodness – it was so good! (Why did I force myself to like Vegemi*e just to finish one jar?!) Since that day, my family has been spreading miso on toast.
Miso brings a rich, savoury umami flavour that pairs beautifully with fresh toppings - like avocado! If you are a butter lover, spread butter & miso. This combo is unbeatable. Once you try it, you might just have a new favourite. So easy, but very satisfying. Good start of the day :-)
You will need :
- A slice (or two ) of your favourite bread - a good sourdough works wonders
- Your favourite miso - just enough to spread a thin layer
Optional :
- A little butter, if you like - the combo of butter and miso is unbreathable
- Ripe avocado
- Eggs - soft boiled, poached, scrambles...it's all good
How to prepare it :
1. Toast your bread to golden perfection.
2. Spread with butter (if using) while it's still warm, then add a thin layer of miso.
Just a thin layer of Miso is enough, not too much!
(Especially if you are using salty type of miso)
3. Add your favourite toppings.
- Smashed avo, a jummy egg, pickles whatever your morning heart desires.
4. Take a bite, and let that salty-savoury goodness win your over. Yum yum.
My personal go-to?
Miso avocado toast – creamy, nutty, and bursting with umami. Trust me, it’s a match made in heaven. I hope you like it too!
